Here is the finished painting of one of the sketches River posted yesterday! Apparently there's a Twitter challenge going on right now called "Mermay," hence the underwater theme. First up is Mer-Cloud; Mer-River still needs to be painted, so I'll post about her later. ^w^ It's been quite a while since I used watercolors--I'd almost… Continue reading Watercolor Painting: Mermaid Cloud ~ Under the Sea ~
This is Homework Crane. I made him out of a Calculus worksheet (you see my writing there, on his back?), and he symbolizes making something beautiful out of something terrible. ...Or something. ^^; Anyway. To all of the students out there dealing with finals, or waiting for grades, or just slogging through some good-old-fashioned studying--take… Continue reading Homework Crane
So I was playing around with this game, by Rinmaru Games, and just for fun I tried my hand at depicting a character of mine. She's known for her stoicism. Then I got to the hands section, and while all of the selections are lovely, most of them...did not fit her character. Silliness ensued. Aaaaand,… Continue reading Of Dress up Dolls and Silliness

Hello again. This week, I'll be covering...spooky soundtracks! And ways to hide your speakers for Halloween night, so that you can play eerie music around your house. Jack-o-lanterns--everyone's favorite orange faces. 😉 However, jack-o-lanterns don't need to be carved from only pumpkins! In fact, the custom began in Scotland and Ireland, with the people carving not pumpkins, but turnips and potatoes! You don't see a turnip jack-o-lantern very often in the U.S.A, though. And jack-o-lanterns have a myth surrounding them, about a man named 'Stingy Jack'. As the story goes, Stingy Jack tricked the Devil into promising to never take his soul. When he passed on, he couldn't go to heaven, because he had led a rather unsavory life, but, true to his word, the Devil refused to let him into hell either. When Jack protested that he had nowhere to go, and not even a light to see by, the Devil mockingly tossed him a burning coal from his fire. Jack carved out a turnip and put the coal inside to make a lantern to light his way. And thus, the jack-o-lantern was born! With all the creativity people have, the jack-o-lanterns are no longer simply faces; they can be dragons, houses, a silhouette against the moon--anything! Which brings us to the next part of my post...*cue dramatic music*
